Interviews and outreach

Being a performing musician as well as a student of the Chinese language offers a unique opportunity to share aspects of one culture while gaining insight from another.

Event hosting, interviews, and educational outreach are all means by which I hope to play a positive role in the ongoing cultural exchange we now all participate in as global citizens.

CHamber Music project 2020

The worldwide hiatus from public performance this year opened up the opportunity to explore unique repertoire with unusual instrumentation, sometimes aided by a little modification from yours truly.

Baroque and early Classical music are especially enjoyable to work on and perform in a chamber music setting. The light instrumentation and improvisatory nature of the music leaves plenty of room for the performers to put their personal spin on the piece without compromising the composer’s intentions. Artistic freedom is usually thought to be reserved for jazz musicians and is almost unheard of in the symphony orchestra setting. However, this Haydn Divertimento for Viola, Violone and French horn tells a much different story from what we often hear in the concert hall today.
